 SPOT BROWSER® 3
Introduction to Spot Browser® 3

Since 2002, ALPHELYS has known to develop a strong expertise in Tissue Arrays technologies and has introduced since then more software and instruments for this market than any company in the world, including Spot Browser® 2, the most sold tissue arrays analysis system in Europe.

Spot Browser® is a Tissue Arrays analysis system based on a microscope that allows user to rapidly capture spots images, organize them into the tissue array grid, annotate and analyze them with quantitative imaging like nuclei counting and IHC signal quantitation or even morphometric measurements.
In 2004, ALPHELYS introduced MTABOOSTER® and BOOSTARRAYER® which brought a new push to tissue array construction by bringing automation and thus facilitating the spread of tissue arrays in research. MTABOOSTER® is a motorization kit that automates manual tissue arrayer 1 from the historical American manufacturer BEECHER INSTRUMENTS.

In september 2006, ALPHELYS introduced TISALYS®, the really true first commercially available data base for archiving and processing tissue arrays images and analytic data.

In February 2007, ALPHELYS introduces MiniCore®, the new generation of semi-automated tissue arrayer that exploits a proprietary and patented technology designed by ALPHELYS that simplifies automation and strongly accelerates tissue array construction.

With the development of research programs on tissue arrays, the demand in tissue arrays analysis is strongly increasing with more and more complete needs.
Leading on this market, ALPHELYS had to make its champion products evolve to a new version: the generation Spot Browser® 3.
This new generation will inheritate from Spot Browser® 2 functionalities that made its success. With the integration on ALPHELYS GoodSpeed® System, Spot Browser® 3 will gain the fast slide scanning capability that will allow capture and analysis at any magnifications.
Spot Browser® 3 will also be proposed for fluorescence analysis.
Last but not least, Spot Browser® 3 will be deeper integrated with other products like TMADesigner® to collect automatically tissue array grids and TISALYS® to archive images and analytical data without user intervention..

Even more automation in tissue arrays spots detection

Tissue array is a world apart in microarrays. Unlike DNA chips, spots are not deposited on the slide at predefined positions.
Tissue array sectioning, spot tissue type, paraffin quality and technician skills, all this tends to play a major role in the generation of high quality tissue array slides which means most of the time (1) high yield of spots present on the slide and (2) tissue array grid not deformed.
Since Spot Browser® introduction in 2002, ALPHELYS has proposed and made evolve flexible, performing, easy to use and well adapted solutions to detect and identify spots in their respective grid.
Detecting properly the spots is critical: it guarantees the correct identification of the spot and thus the link to patient data as well as results. It also permits to relocate the spot on the slide for a deeper inspection.
With Spot Browser® 3, you gain in precision and speed of detection.
Spot Browser® 3 exploits data generated by TMADesigner®, ALPHELYS tissue array design software to rapidly identify the spots in the tissue array.

Spot Browser® 2 high level of functionality and flexibility as a reference

Spot Browser® 2, although some times limited in pure performances, is widely recognized as reference software in tissue array analysis thanks to very high functionality content
Spot Browser® 3 starts on this basis and increases again the level. You will find again the possibility to create as many annotations you desire as well as imaging protocols
What’s new in Spot Browser® 3:
• Comparative analysis of a sample slide against a reference slide
• Fluorescence analysis
• Artificial intelligence assisted image analysis
• Total integration with TMADesigner® and TISALYS®.

Creation of template studies is strongly simplified. Image analysis protocols can be saved individually to make possible to use them in any study.
Unlimited number of annotations can be defined as in TISALYS® and linked with study, slide, spot, individual…each user may then define his preferences of fields display at the screen to have adapted annotations fields upon project types.

Artificial intelligence as option for Spot Browser® 3

Spot Browser® 3proposes by default pixel based image analysis as in Spot Browser® 2.
Spot Browser® 3 will propose in addition by year 2007 a new line of artificial intelligence assisted image analysis to facilitate detection of complex structures for image quantitation and automated morphometry.

Analysis against a reference slide

In many IHC situations, analysis requires consulting the H&E reference slide to locate the signals properly.
Spot Browser® 3 proposes, like TISALYS® , the possibility to run a comparative analysis against a reference slide for visual inspection as well as imaging on seriated slides.
You may choose the reference and sample slides.
On seriated slides, you can draw zones on the reference slide that will be used to do imaging on the sample slide.

Spot Browser® 3 even more integrated with TMADesigner® and TISALYS®

In Spot Browser® 3 will allow you to import TMADesigner® map file and will automatically exploit it for the analysis.
Annotations fields created in TMADesigner® when importing Patient data will be automatically imported and created into Spot Browser® 3 image data base.
Creation of new studies is strongly facilitated and accelerated.
Once analysis by Spot Browser® 3 completed, you can use TISALYS® to explore any data and images and process them through internal* or external biostatistics tools
TISALYS® can be readily installed on a Spot Browser® 3 computer. TISALYS® operates in network.

Secured access

Tissue array data can be sensible and one may want to restrict their access because of private data for example.
Spot Browser® 3 proposes a restricted access with user account management with login and password.
Spot Browser® 3 administrator can create user accounts upon needs.
Data and images are compartmented by teams, projects.

Spot Browser® 3 available in network license

Spot Browser® 3 is a network application. Connexion licenses are available to allow distant users to connect to Spot Browser® 3 central data base to access slide images and do analysis.
Spot Browser® 2 upgrade to Spot Browser® 3 System

Upgrading your Spot Browser® 2 to Spot Browser® 3 will allow you to do fast slide scanning on your system, digitize tissue arrays slides at any magnification and analyze them as well as to access to fluorescence imaging in TMA.
